What is a Bill?

Stray produces four main bills throughout the year. Each bill has an open submission to any members who wish to write and/or direct a production. These get selected throughout the year.

As of 2024, our four Bills are now classed into a set of two Double Bills! Our Semester 1 Double Bill focuses on plays by existing playwrights while our Semester 2 Double Bill centres around the works of our community!

Scipt submissions and Producer sign-ups are now open for our first Double Bill: The Legacy Works!

Semester 1:
The Legacy Works

Semester 2:
The Writers' Works

Classical Bill

Previously referred to as 'Historical Bill', the Classical Bill play that will be selected will be considered historical or a modern classic.

Previous shows that have fit this bill have been:

  • Metamorphosis by Franz Kafka

  • Much Ado About Nothing by William Shakespeare

  • The Resistible Rise of Arturo Ui by Bertolt Brecht

Our 2024 Classical Bill is An Ideal Husband by Oscar Wilde

Contemporary Bill

Previously referred to as 'Main Bill',  the Contemporary Bill play that will be selected will be considered 'modern', either by its themes or the playwright themselves.

Previous shows that have fit this bill have been:

  • Low Pay? Don't Pay! by Dario Fo

Original short plays are submitted by Stray members and are linked together by a well crafted 'framework'.
